The most convenient way to apply for new electrical service is to visit a customer service office where your application will be handled immediately and your questions answered by a friendly customer service representative. However, for those who cannot easily get to a customer service office, a Residential Service Request Application can be mailed to you, and you can request service in writing or by fax. Enclose a copy of your personal identification—driver’s license and Social Security card—along with a check or money order for the security deposit.
New residential accounts require a deposit totaling the amount of two consecutive billing periods but not less than $100. An approved letter of credit from your previous utility where you have had electrical service within the last year may be considered in lieu of the deposit. If a deposit is required, the deposit will be returned to the customer with interest after a 13-month billing period with no penalties on the account. Visit www.santeecooper.comfor more information.

Renters must supply personal identification plus their rental agreement. The Electric Department accepts letters of credit from other power companies from the past 12 months. With a letter of credit, renters can establish electricity, water and sewer service with a $90 deposit plus a $33 non-refundable service fee. Without a letter of credit the deposit is $180 plus the $33 non-refundable service fee.
