Forty days before the culmination of Easter, those looking for a day of complete indulgence find revelry in the celebration of Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday. Mardi Gras historically and culturally represents the last day before the fast of Lent, in which many give up one or several of their own personal vices. This celebration has become secular in recent times, with people from all different backgrounds taking part in this day and night of eating, drinking, and having a great time!
This year, Murrells Inlet welcomes Mardi Gras to its lively MarshWalk, where local businesses will serve up fantastic specials, while visitors experience this traditionally French holiday. On February 28, join us at the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk for a special “Marshi Gras,” featuring live music, authentic holiday cuisine, dinner and beverage specials, and of course, Mardi Gras swag! Guests already love the atmosphere of the restaurants on the MarshWalk, and each of them will present special Louisiana-themed menu items to help get guests into the spirit of Mardi Gras.
The event gets started with a Costume Contest Parade, led by the Marshi Gras King and Queen of the night. The parade sets off at 7 p.m. at Bovine’s, with registration taking place there from 5 p.m. to 6:35 p.m. Although anyone can join in with the fun of the parade, only registrants will be eligible to win prizes in the contest. Stop by The Wicked Tuna at 8:30 p.m. after the parade for the announcement of costume winners and the presentation of $1,000 worth of cash and other prizes! Whether you’re looking to compete or just looking to have a great time, come dressed in your best Mardi Gras style or collect our own celebration swag on-site. These items consist of masks, beads, and more!
If you’re planning to complete the fast of Lent, why not spend the last evening before indulging in some delicious foods and drinks, while partying the night away, New Orleans style? Visit the MarshWalk on February 28 for a night of revelry and fun!
