Sweet Summer Time at Heron Marsh

Nestled away in the legendary Litchfield By the Sea gated community, a traditional low country oasis awaits. Where the intercostal waters rise and fall against the pluff mud, and the saw grass sways in the ocean breeze. Marsh life warmly welcomes tourists and outdoor enthusiasts, alike. Join me, as we visit low country living at its finest.

From a Heron’s eye view, an abundance of nature can be found in these local brackish waters that we call, “the marsh.” At low tide, imagine creek shrimp skipping the water as tailing redfish push towards the grass line. At high tide, picture a school of mullet or mud minnows rushing past the claws of a blue crab or the jaws of a patiently waiting flounder just beyond the oyster bars. For the native Great Blue Heron, these are the moments that embody marsh life.

For the angler, who’s willing to dance the tide, these waters are productive from dusk to dawn, providing fresh seafood for a “Po-Boy” sandwich, or a tasty low country boil. For the photographer of the family, these views stretch on for miles all along the coast, offering countless opportunities for memories of a life time.

Just beyond the saw grass, Palm trees and an array of botanicals, proudly standing the test of tide and time, provide shade to over one mile of walking trails that commune to all residencies in the community. Whether you’re looking for walk as easy as Sunday morning or an adventurous bike ride, these surrounding areas are sure to fit your fancy. And if you’re looking for a peaceful place to sit and relax, look no further the cabana seating by the dock.

Just as local wildlife abides in the area, beach-goers and residents are invited to come stay in sweet southern comfort. Located just east of the marsh, lies a series hidden gems, known as Heron Marsh.

Established in late 70’s through mid 80’s, these raised beach townhomes, provide a first class experience for all to come partake in SC low country living. Coming in at 1,300 sq ft, these 2 bed, 2 bath properties offer space for up to six guests.

Up a flight of stairs from the private parking area, you’ll be greeted to an open kitchen to living area floor plan. The kitchen area offers all the pantry and cabinetry space needed for week or life spent in paradise. The living area, provides room for an array of accent chairs, sectionals, and a dining table.

Just beyond, the living area, Heron Marsh properties boast a patio area which quietly literally provide the aforementioned “heron marsh” views. Whether you are looking to enjoy a morning coffee with a view or a night unwinding with the family there is plenty of space for you.

Both in the upstairs and down stairs, you will find the bed room areas, with sufficient space to furnish duel twin beds or a king and dressers. Each room provides its own closet space, cable TV connection, and a direct access to the bathrooms.

Outside, each property has ground level storage space, where you can store you beach chairs, fishing poles, and bicycles. The Parking area offers room for 2 full sized vehicles and a golf cart. Just beyond the parking area, is the back lawn, a perfect space for a picnic table, and grilling.
